Toledo
A half of full day visit to Spain’s former capital, Toledo.
Toledo is built on a hill surrounded by the River Tagus around 70km to the south of Madrid. The city has featured prominently in the history of Spain and within its walls different cultures have lived side by side over the centuries, leaving behind an unparalleled heritage. The city was one of the first ten places to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The famous painter El Greco lived for many years in Toledo and his masterpiece “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz” is housed in the Church of Santo Tomé.
The most important monument in the city is the gothic Cathedral dating from the 13th century. We will wander through the old town visiting the most important monuments and sites along the way. After that there will be some free time to discover the hidden backstreets and charming squares of the city. You can check out the shops selling local products like El Damasquinado, knives, swords and the delicious Toledo marzipan. The city offers a great variety of restaurants for lunch or dinner and I can help with recommendations and reservations.
A half day visit lasts 5 hours.
Full day visits last 8 hours.
